Abstract
This publication focuses on data protection challenges of educational monitoring in the public school sector. While critically examining recent developments in Germany, the authors also draw comparisons to the legal situation in Austria. The approach shows that an evidence based analysis of individual student data may comply with strict privacy regulations, provided this method of educational monitoring is politically endorsed.
