Abstract

and self-directed learning should – as far as possible – be regular components and important goals of everyday teaching. Due to my many years of experience, I would however like to make the suggestion, when regarding disadvantaged pupils, to detach oneself from all too rigid, one-sided and consistently free forms of learning. A successful school should rather apply a variety of methods and concepts with quite fixed specifications and contents in normal lessons. Teachers must be more than just learning guides. In addition, especially in profile classes, during afternoon activities and in special projects, more open forms of learning should be implemented. To interlink all these building blocks conceptually and practically can lead to success.
