Participatory Elaboration of Education for Sustainable Development in the “Learning City Gelsenkirchen”

Abstract
The competition “Future City 2030+” launched by the “Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung” assumes that sustainability can only be realized with the participation of local people. In this context, the “Learning City Gelsenkirchen” relied on Education for Sustainable Development as a starting point for participatory development and implementation of the vision of “future education”. The report outlines this opening’s potential for the participation of further actors, the significance of expectations and the role of academic support.
