Abstract
Since its beginnings in the 1990s, education for sustainable development has been accompanied by sharp criticism. The article explores the question of what ignites this criticism and develops the thesis that it is not shortcomings or deficits, but rather too much of a good thing that gives rise to the criticizable form of education for sustainable development. Subsequently, the article argues for a double turn to the praxis of education in the context of societal transformation efforts.
