Abstract
The Danube connects cities and regions and receives for (South-Eastern) Europe a prominent identity-giving importance which leaves its marks in all areas of life of the some 100 Million people along the Danube. Peter Langer shows this exemplarily on the cultural diversity. Migration and integration led historically to a “Danube identity” and to an intercultural mentality, to which has to be linked today: “Culture is the soul of Europe”.
