Abstract

Using the example of the development of mathematics education over the last 70 years, the article shows how in complex areas of tension between the dynamic developments of subject matter research and its related educational sciences as well as the social and political framework conditions in subject matter research, the shift from a narrow orientation towards the underlying subject science to student-oriented concepts for lesson design has taken place. The construct of subject matter research “learning environment” illustrates that subject-didactic research on giftedness can provide important impulses for the development of innovative teaching concepts that correspond to the diversity of today’s children and adolescents.
